Venue: Al Emadi Hospital, 1st floor

Target audience: Nurses 

Total participant intake per session: 20

Statement of need: Falls may lead to patient injury, increased health care costs, and possibly claims of clinical negligence. Fall risk assessment using a reliable and valid tool is recommended because it allows nurses to make decisions regarding the patient’s potential for falls in a systematic manner. This course will emphasize the concept and the importance of hourly rounding to nurses as an effective fall prevention strategy.

This learning activity aims to:

1. Identify the prevalence of In-Patient Falls.

2. Recognize the risk factors for fall.

3. Describe the concept of hourly rounding as a fall prevention measure.

4. Review the MORSE fall risk assessment tool.

5. Discuss the outcome impact of hourly rounding on fall prevention.

This will be a ‘blended’ activity with didactic and small group activity components.

Current Role: Director of Nursing

As a Nursing Director, she provides oversight on governance, education, quality and process improvement based on the Standards of Accreditation Canada International and Ministry Of Public Health of Qatar. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Lyceum of the Philippines – Batangas, Philippines in 1990 and her Master Degree in Nursing through the Manila Central University – Manila, Philippines in 2001. She is a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner of the Philippines with Professional Regulation Commission Registered Nurse License No. 0183722 and the Qatar Council for Health Practitioners – Ministry Of Public Health with Nurse Specialist – Nurse Educator License No. 345. Has over 25 years of nursing experience and for the past 15 years she’s overseen the Nursing Service Department as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, in Nursing Administration and Education up to the present and with a very good set of skills on the following:

• Nursing Administration and Education* Interpersonal skills * Comprehensive Nursing knowledge * *Communication, Negotiation, Facilitation * Guidance and Counseling * Problem solving / Decision making * Program management / assessment * Presentation / Training * Documentation / Writing * Flexible / Assertive / Adaptable

• Had a part time experience as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, focused on Promotion and Preventive Nursing and Health Care.

Achievements

1. Demonstrated leadership skills that led the team of the Nursing Service Department to deliver a quality and safety nursing care and continuously rectify every nursing related issues

2. Introduced and developed nursing programs, conducted nursing classes to update on policies and procedures, trained and oriented new staff members and monitored the continuing education of nurses.

3. Developed and implemented policies and procedure for nursing services to promote safety awareness, quality performance & reliability and improving customer service satisfaction.

4. Facilitated programs and activities as a Team Leader of Ambulatory Care Services at Al Emadi Hospital to its journey of the accreditation process until we got certified by Accreditation Canada International.

5. Participated at Ministry of Public Health in Introducing a Framework for CME/CPD in Qatar Healthcare System.
